WASHINGTON -- The United Telecom Council joined with eight UTelcos -- Con Ed Communications, Edison Carrier Solutions, HydroOne, IDACOMM, PPL Telcom, Progress Telecom, Southern Telecom and SRP Telecom to form the UTelco Alliance. Created to bring a higher level of name recognition to UTelcos in general, the UTelco Alliance brands UTelcos as providers of ultra-reliable network services across the United States and Canada. Formed and in some cases owned by electric, gas or water utilities, UTelcos provide a unique niche in the crowded telecommunication industry. As telecommunication vendors, UTelcos feature desirable attributes including reliable networks, business stability, geographic reach and world class services. “UTelcos are an emerging force in the telecommunications industry. Telecommunication service providers that haven’t considered UTelcos as vendors should,” commented Bill Moroney, President and CEO of the United Telecom Council. “This alliance is about introducing UTelcos to the market as a strong, viable alternative to traditional suppliers.” Together with xchange magazine, the UTelco Alliance will host an invite only reception during CompTel’s Spring 2005 Convention & Expo to formally introduce the UTelco Alliance and its members to the industry.
